Is this "el cheapo" Velleman100wRMS kit good enough for a subwoofer amp?

While searching through an electonics kit store, I found quite a deal on a simple solid-state amplifier. It's probbably not amazing, but would it be good enough to use as a subwoofer amplifier? Most plate-amps are much more expensive, but the actual parts cost for a "sonotube" subwoofer is not much at all, and this might be a nice way to make a cheap woofer.

The basic velleman amplifier is good enough for a subwoofer.

I'd upgrade the value of the smoothing capacitors though.

Out of curiousity, what is the reason that I've yet to see anyone else using one?

Hi Spasticteapot,

Depends on the price of the kit - MCM currently has a 150w RMS @ 4 ohm plate amp available for $49.95, which is hard to beat on price and convenience.

Given the choice, I'd go the $50 plate amp route every time.
