Default 100V systems for parts

hi i am only new to al this and dont know much about building amplifiers and stuff but i got given a old 100v system amplifier and it sounds bad using it as that so i was woundering is there any way i can transorm it into a normal amp or use some of the parts to make one i have a teacher at school who is in to building ampifiers and he will be able to give me a hand but i would like to give it a go my self

any thanks in advanced

If you want to modify the amp for say 4 or 8 ohms load impedance you should try to get rid of the output transformer. You have to determine if this is possible. It's a distinct possibility that the amp is designed in a way that it is not possible to run without the output transformer.

If the amp has single supply, and the center tap is connected directly to a supply voltage (0 or supply), you are probably stuck.

Get hold of the schematic.

Man! That thing looks antique!

It's a little hard to tell judging from the picture, I would like to see just a little more of the amp.

I looks to me like the big black transformer is the power transformer, and the little one is the audio output transformer.

It also looks like there is 1 power supply capacitor, (The grey one on the lower right) This means single supply. There seems to be 2 power transistors mounted on the back plate directly above the output transformer.

If this is correct then it suggests a design that is not easily converted to low impedance.

I myself would probably not waste much time on such an amp. You could use the chassis if you wanted to, and maybe the power transformer if the output voltage is right. Go measure it.

Put a 'Gainclone' type of chip-amp in there. There are loads of info on these types here:

it is an antique do u think i could get some transormers and hook them up to my speakers will i get much power out of it ? and on the back of it there are some points where you can hook speakers up to there are all different ones like 4ohms, 8ohms, 16ohms, and com i have tried hooking speakers up to that and it worked no bad noices or hums but the quility of the sound was bad its it may sound wired i just said it was good but it is a really dull flat sound is there any way i could fix that then i could still use becuse i dont have much money to spend if any
