Default Phono modules from Naim/Meridian/...

Has anyone tried to use a set of phono boards outside of their intended amp? I'm putting together a little amp, and I keep seeing rather tempting ebay auctions for Naim or Meridian phono boards or modules. Does anyone have any suggestions as to which one would be easiest to use, power requirements etc?
