Default Any good?

In a fit of madness I purchased a "bargain" in a low end 5.1 surround sound amplifer. It was a runout model and last one on the shelf was the demo stock. I haggled and got the price down from $500 to $300. I plan to give it to my son for Christmas but wondering how good it was pulled the top off and found it has 5 equally sized amps running A1941/C5198 output transistors. So the 5X100watt blurb on the box is a bit ambitious seeing Toshiba rate the pair as 70watts.

I think it may be a reasonable entry level amp but can any one comment on this pair in amps? The tranny looks to be about 300VA if not a little bigger (500VA? maybe)

I know I could build him something better but he just would not appreciate it

Hi David,
What can I say? Not too bad for $300. Something better will cost this much less the rest of the circuits and all your time.

I think your son will be very happy with it if you can get it back together. Just tell him it's 50W / channel, or whatever the supply voltages tell you. And not flat out or it'll blow up. He may have it for years on end.
