Default howdy - amplifer problem, channel cutting out

Hey folks...

I'm fairly new to electronics and stuff, but have a basic understanding. My problem is (and please don't think I'm coming to this forum just to get people to solve my problems... just didn't know where else to turn...) I have two seperate stereo amps that like to cut out at low volumes. One started like 2 years ago, another just recently. Both older models, early 80's. Can't be the speakers, cause it does it just thru headphones also. Replaced the fuses, didn't seem to be those either.

I'm sure this is a common problem if it's happened to me twice. Since everyone here knows so damn much, maybe you guys can clue me as to what I can do, or what the problem is.

Thanks in advance,

Hi Greg,
The fault is most likely speaker relay contacts. If they aren't burnt, they can be cleaned. They should be dry with no cleaner on them when reassembled. Tap the top of the relay at low volume to check.

The problem may also be another switch or control. So operate each switch and control slowly. The channel may come back or sound very crackly. Use proper cleaners. De-Ox-Id (GC) or Deoxid (Caig). Use as little as possible.
