Hi,
I would like to give this amp a try, just out of interest. I know this sort of stuff doesn't appeal to everyone, but I would still like to give it a try, without rousing negative posts...... http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/attac...amp=1059159077 Can anyone suggest the mosfets I should use and the rail volatages required? 1 watt should be fine as I have very sensitive speakers and don't listen too loud. At the moment I have regulated supplies with 50v torroids, but perhaps the rails will be to high at 70 v? However it would be nice if I could use the parts I already have without purchasing more. If anyone can suggest mosfets that can handle the 70v voltage for around a 1W ouptut it would be great. many thanks Raja PS I have plenty of heatsinks to use..... |

Pitty that Steve has been sinbinned. The more voltage, the more linearity, as there is no other means to improve it

Let's wait for Steve to advise. In case of power stage, I would use IRFP240, 244 or 350.

Hi,
I don't know the whole story but that deleted thread was a bit extreme. What else do you call an enclosed transformer that has it's coat taken off and still inject a little humour? I was waiting for some tech info coming back. The transformer shown in this thread will reflect a multplied impedance into the fets (varies as the square of the turns ratio). This circuit will probably work better if the input impedance is kept low and the transformer does the opposite. What's the solution?

I have done that with a radio shack signal transformer, reversely connected, to drive an irf540.
It sounded fine. the only problem I see is that you will have to use a very powerful driver to get good quality sound. In my case, my driver was biased over 80ma for good sound. the radio shack signal transformer (<$5 each) has a 1:10x ratio (give or take a few). |
