seq. for tube pre and solid-state power

Hi,

I heard something like this the other day.

"If you had a tube preamp and solid-state power amp set up. When you turn the setup ON, first turn on the ss power and then the tube pre. And when you turn it OFF, the preamp has to turn off first and then the power amp."

Did I have the sequence right or not? (I was just ear-dropping and could not remember exactly). What would be the reason for the particular sequence?

Nope, your sequence isn't right. First you must turn on the tube pre-amp, then turn on the solid state power amp. For turning off, first turn off the power amp, and then pre amp.

The same procedure should apply no matter what the technology is. The goal is to prevent a big noise from the amplifier. One never knows for sure if the equipment has proper muting.
