Normally car amps will able to drive loads down to 1 ohm,beyond thatrotection circuits start to working.

Very true, anyone would be a fool to build a car amp without protection circuitry. A fire inside a car is a horrible thing...especially while your driving in the center lane of a busy highway.

I have seen high end car amps that don't have any overload protection. I can't remember the brand though. but they do still have thermal protection.
