Question Upgrading the Rotel.

Have you tried any upgrades on the Rotel yet?

I`m just asking since I`m planning on doing some upgrades on my Denon reciver and DVD player.

A fast look at the Denon schematics shows lots! of caps and cheap op-amps in the signalpath...
The powersupply are weak as?
I don`t know, 2*10.000uf in a 5*75W amp isn`t much to brag about...

The power amplifier circuit seems to be realy simple (not many parts).

I haven`t looked at the volume control parts yet, but I guess they have picked up some cheap stuff here also.

There are plenty room for upgraded parts, it must be the sales department who decide the box size, big box=must be good ;-)

My goal is to get this reciver to play movie sound in a decent way, and that it can power the rear channels without soundnig harsh.

Time will show

The they decided it was not up to thier standards so they went back to the drawing boards and came up with helical scanning.
Actually Ampex of early tape recorder fame had invented helical scanning several years before Sony developed it but Ampex didn't introduce it to the market until 1961.

Hi Dorkus

however, this preamp sucks
I must admit that I have a very soft spot for Rotel products, but I have never been convinced by their pre-amps. The only good Rotel pre I can think about was the old Michi passive pre. Their other components are generally above average, and I still think the old RCD965 CD-player can show many newcomers a clean set of heels, especially if you take time to tweak it a bit

Enjoy,
Deon
