I just picked up a Carver PM-100 pro audio amp. Everything works great except the level controls on front wont move at all. They are stuck almost all the way up.
Someone reccomended buying some spray like this. http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showd...number=341-200 Or should I Just take it to a local repair shop and see if they can fix it? Thanks |

If you know what you're doing it would be simplest to unsolder the potentiometers, and find some replacements. If not, then yes, let a repair shop do it.

Hi customsuburb,
That spray is good for cleaning contacts but will not help here. Did the unit get wet or is there a possibility the knobs were pushed in too far? These may need replacement, not a real hard job. -Chris |

Being a pro-amp, the pots are not some locking type? To prevent unwanted tampering/resetting.
Just a thought. Greg |

Hi Greg,
No they are not the locking type. Basically, just inexpensive carbon pot. The grease may be very sticky or the knobs are pushed against the bushing. Customsuburb, Try to free the pots first. Pull the knobs towards you. They are push on plastic types. No set screw. That alone may free them. You may need a wide flat screwdriver. Put a business card underneath so you don't gouge the faceplate. -Chris |
