Sony - MHC-1600 Stereo / CD Player

Hi,
I have a Sony combo cd/stereo Model MHC-1600 / HCD-H1600 and I have a high pitch hum when I put it in the CD mode only.

Would anyone have any suggestions on the problem ?

Is the noise coming from the laser assy or the speakers?

Hi Chris,
The high pitch noise is only when you are playing a cd. You only get the noise without any audio. But the counter and tracks for forward and backward works just like it is playing a cd?

Hi Rusty777,
If the noise is mechanical from the mechanism area, it is from the lense of the laser assy. Could be a servo is oscillating (gain too high). The servo's normally make a white noise type sound. You can't normally hear this.
If the noise comes from the speakers you may have a problem in the filter stage or servo noise may be getting into the audio. You need a 'scope to check further in this casse.
