Hi,
I usually use these substitutions: BC546/556 --- MPSA06/56 or 2N5401/5551 BC639/640 --- MPSA43/93 or 42/92 BF256 --- jfet ----depends on the application Regards, Milan |

Great help, very appreciated.
Here the application for the FET. It is an amp protection circuit. I think it is use in this circuit as a current source for T35,T36. So what is your recommendation on this? Thanks. |

The closest replacement (RF characteristic) for BF256 in digikey catalog is 2N5486. However, in this application almost any N ch jfet with Idss around 5mA will be just fine, IMO. It is Elektor's THE AMP? Regards, Milan |

The transistors used really do not seem critical at all in this circuit.
Perhaps the easyest thing would be to use MPS8099 and MPS8599. Just be careful when replacing the BC639 as the pinout is different. |

You could replace the FET arrangement with any current sink, as this is all it is doing. You could make a current sink with 2 transistors or 1 transistor and a 3mm LED quite easily (look at the LTP of pretty much any amplifier to see how this works)
