Some guy contacted me - he has a Sony 808ES - he managed somehow to fry one channel's output transistor - and now he offers me the amp - saying that he was told those transistors are very $$ - but he doesn't have a clue how much does he want for an amp ...
What's a reasonable offer for such an amp? |

Here's my basic method, although I have a tendency not to bother with non-working equipment.
What would a good second-hand hi-fi shop pay for one in working order? Somewhere between that and what the shop will sell it for is what is it worth. Subtract the cost to have the same shop fix the unit. That's what it is currently worth. Knowing that, you can decide what you would pay for it. :)ensen.

Yup, basically, it's salvage. Besides, what other problems does it have? I would tend to call it not worth repair unless the guy is playing games with you. I always get a refused est. fee that used to be $30.00 CDN, or they can leave the unit. Not unless it truely is not worth repair.
