Hi,
I found a little sweet wooden box and my Leach Amp will go into it. Since I already installed PCB's and heatsinks on a board I don't have much chance to change the layout. The bad thing is the layout is such that the wires running from the filter caps to the boards have to be little bit more than a foot (maybe ~ 40cm). 1) Is this length too much for 16 AWG wire? Is the inductance of the wire considerable for this purpose? 2) I can also make it such that the (+) wire running from one cap to one PCB will be short while the (-) one will be still long and vice versa for the other board. So, the total lenth will be little bit less but (+) and (-) wire lenths won't be the same for each board. Can this difference make an off-set problem if high currents are drawn? Thanks, Murat |

I wouldn't worry about it in this iteration of your amplifier.
You can always go back and put in more copper, or come up with a new chassis; it's what I did, several times. To the extent possible, keep the wiring runs short and the wires as thick as practical, but you knew that already. Symmetry is nice, but not essential so long as it doesn't get >too< assymetric, I think. It's probably more important to keep the output transistors' wiring as short as practical. |

Hi,
try increasing the on board decoupling capacitors. Remember to return the grounds of the decoupling caps to the commom ground on a separate wire from the clean return. regards Andrew T.
