Default Yamaha rx-550 question.

I have a yamaha rx-550 receiver and I would like to know the true rms wattage per channel.
I searched the net and found it is 55watts per channel but I don’t believe that because I was running 2 12inch subs and it ran them like it was 200w rms, it ran my clarion nearly to its limit and its 300w rms in a nicely sealed box.

Has anyone had any experience in fixing them?

THANKS Hayden
