How about we step back to a sweet aluminum case with vertical dados every inch or soe around the perimeter. Then we can slide in dividers, heat sinks, and other do-dads with pc card mounts etc. Maybe a nice shielded box for your transformer/caps/bridge that will drop in and lock in the slots.
Could still have some kind of bus-bar system for power, but maybe instead of fixed rails, there are copper rails of varying lengths (and Gauge equivs) that are insulated except at the ends, that screw to the PS box and to the boards.
Sort of like those cheap little plastic project boxes, but not cheap, not plastic, and not little.
Could still have various sizes of the sides/backs/tops, but in common dimentions and with common dado spacing.
Still just throwing ideas.
Also, how about some face plates with some generic hole configurations to accomidate switches and leds. Or a face plate with a big square hole with swappable insert plates.
