Unhappy Mark Levinson JC-2 problem ( broken Line driver )

Dear HiFi fans,

I have a Mark Levinson JC-2 since 1980 from my Dad and one of the line driver module is not working ( I switch the left one to right and only one channel have sound so I think one of the line driver is broken) Does anyone know where I can get it replace ( no stock in Mark Levinson dealer in Hong Kong nowadays). Any advise is very very thankful and appreciated.

Components sometimes show up on ebay, but that piece has long been out of production. Your best bet may be to look at the schematic at www.marklev.com and see about repairing it. The gain blocks are sealed, but I've heard that people manage to get them open (it isn't easy) for service. Failing that, you can build updated gain blocks with newer parts, but using the same topology.
Good luck.

Ken, let Elso help you. The JC-2 line stages were only made from 1973-1976, about 30 years ago. They can't be fixed, but Elso has some sort of replacement that he feels is even better. I would recommend it.

Thanks John and Elso,

I was told by the 2 famous HIFI repair firm and both claim that there are some replace block in USA. ??? Cannot confirm the source but it is very expensive (USD 550 each). I am not sure if they are really the orginal although the outlook same as my orginally one. I haven't try yet. What do you think?
