Bridge Rectifier Question

When selecting a 25A or 35A bridge rectifier there is the option of various Peak Reverse Voltage ratings. Beyond a minimum sufficient rating (400V or 600V), is there any disadvantage other than price for selecting a still higher rating? I.e., if there is no difference in price why not just use the version with a 1000V PRV rating?
 
Diodes are manufactured in mass quantities. They will be designed to make some ele specs. Speed, leakage, voltage reverse, voltage forward.


Once they are manufactured and passivated, they are tested and sorted by how they perform..in your example, the 1Kv devices may actually have been the same diffusion run as the 200 volters.

Since they can command a premium price for the higher volt devices, they do so..

For the most part, you will find that the higher voltage devices probably have the same forward spec, just higher reverse capability.

Most applications will not suffer as a result of the higher voltage devices, unless the bvr of the diode is used to protect a delicate transistor from reverse transients.
