Unhappy Yamaha RX-V690 Lightning Hit

I have a RX-V690 Stereo Amplifier that took a spike during an electrical storm. The problem is when you push the on button the relay clicks and that's it, (no display lights or power on or anything). I removed the DIP Bridge rectifier S1NB and disconnected the output leads to the power transformer and the relay does not click anymore. I reinstalled the S1NB and took a reading on the DC side which showed 10.5 volts. I do not have a service manual and would like to know if anyone has ever repaired a model with this problem before. Thanks for any and all help and good luck troubleshooting.

Sorry but the panel lights do come on until the relay clicks off, I replaced the bridge rectifier SN1B60 as the ouput dc voltage was about 10.5 vdc, it is now 13.5 vdc. I do not have a service manual and do not think that this unit is worth spending the $50.00 for one anyway. I beleive the unit may by stuck in it's protected mode but I'm not sure. If anyone has any knowledge they would like to share about this unit please feel free to post a reply. Thanks

A rockgate, may be you can help me.
I have this same unit. It has a problem with the rear channel.
I open it up an found a transistor that was burned.
I would like to replace it but I can't read the # on it. Could you open yours up and tell me the # on the transistor. the board is right on top,and easy to get to. it's a long rectangular board with the numbers XQ049 & VS701. It's mounted to heat sink. There are 6 transistor on it, mounted to the heat sink. 4 of them or covered by a metal clip an 2 are not. Of the 2 that are not, could you give me the #'s off those two, they are closest to the front of the unit. If you can help me, and can't find them I can send you a picture. Let me know if you can.
Thanks Larry

Hi rockgate,
I tried to PM you - but you've disallowed it. The schematic is in the wild on the web. I can't remember where. It's about 6.2MB I think.

You can try to reset the uP, don't need to change anything unless it's blown. The easiest way to do this is unplug the unit and discharge the cap for battery back up. That might bring it back.

If that doesn't work, look for cracks or swelling on the IC packages and around the edges. Sometimes a stain on the pcb gives a clue and a blown chip may run very warm. Yamaha has many protection circuits and it can be fun to figure out which one is tripping, but knowing that will give you a very good clue where the problem may be. Of course you need the manual for that.

The same happened to my rx-v59 when i hooked up a not grounded poweramp with a internal emi filter (class d) to the sub out, and after i had scrapped the receiver after a year i discovered that why it wouldent go out of protect was because the internal amps lost their input earth connection which sent them to either of the rails.

Measure all wires on the amps marked E with the ps groundstar as reference, if it reads above a kiloohm or open, draw a wire between. Thats how i got the amps back alive, tho the rest of the receiver was dead

I always expect really bad things when the ground traces are burnt. Sometimes you get lucky though.
