oh yea forgot to ask this but what the hell does everyone use to isolate transistors from heatsinks so they dont short out
i know what i need but dont know where to get it
is there like some cheap household alternatives or what do people mainly use out in the home audo do it you selfers

You can get most stuff from here: farnell
I've never heard of anyone using anything homebrew for transistor isolation. Mica washers with silicon grease or thermally conductive rubber washers are pretty cheap.
Avoid cling-film (saranwrap?) as it is unreliable, as it is in certain other applications

Any component dealer in the US dealing in power transistors will have at least Mica washers. I prefer Sil-Pads for flatpack transistors which I get out of old PC PSU's, as they require no thermal grease or mess.
You can get really good things out of old PC PSU's, such as line filter chokes, heatsinks, diode bridges, small signal transistors, resistors, capacitors, MOVs, the works They are definately worth keeping if they blow up.
