Hi,
Instead of tweaking the transformer, which may impair safety etc, I believe changing transistors to some higher voltage types is
less expensive. And as suggested use 2 in parallel.

The TIPs you are using are darlington devices with lots of gain so you need to figure out weather your driver stage can handle a lower
gain transistor. If not you have to go for darlingtons or add extra drivers to maka discrete darlington.

hfe of 500??? Are those OP devices?

Any 10watt or larger driver will do for your application with the Toshibas. By the way the Toshiba's have hfe of 60-140 if memory serves...

They are one of the easiest OP BJT devices to drive, they do no "load" up the driver much, even underload, they tend to mantain their beta.

Read this paper on upgrading the Quad 405 and read the OP section, the guy talks about the TOS devices gain etc, nearly constantly over hfe 100 upto 7A!!

good luck!
