Default songs which cause your amps to clip

I'd like to get a good database of albums which clip out your amplifier.
Here is the system I clipped:

#1 Coda 02b preamp, Bryston 3BST, and Ohm Walsh 5 speakers

I got this idea because I recently purchased the David Bowie greatest hits, and "Space Odyssey" (hope I spelled that right) caused my 3BSt to start clipping in the intro. I had no idea that those little green leds actually were there to indicate clipping! Another song that clips out my amp is "Gotham City" on the Batman Forever soundtrack. Thats a little more understandable, as the bass is very deep. Anyway, I'm not technical, but wouldnt a good real-world test of an amp be a list of songs that it could get through without going into heavy clipping distortion? Add your songs.

Telarc's 1812 Overture. Even the first version on LP would do that. The LP was more cool than the SACD "remake" if only because you litereally see where the cannon shots were by looking at the grooves!

Try The Wall or Dark Side of the Moon turned way up.

Unless you are clipping the preamp, no music will ever clip your amp when the volume is kept low. With a large enough input signal from the preamp, any song will clip an amp at high volume.

On CD's, the maximum recording level is nicely (well ...) fixed: 1111111111111111

Regards,
Dirk

Hi Perfusionist!

Why do you think that this is a good real life test?
It is just a simple matter of available power...
And power you can buy at every corner.

Please don't misunderstand me.
I am also a PowerOholic

....but Power is not sufficient.....

Default songs for clipping

Do you know Fat Boy Slim? When he call himself Freak Power he made a song titled "song #6"... Try that!

Carl Orff's Carmina Burana from piano to forte. But it is not a song.

Actually it's 111111111111111 = +32767.

I burnt a CD with a sinewave at maximum level on it and used it on my system to set the power amp attenuator pots to just under the clipping point with the main volume set to maximum. Is still loud enough for most recordings.

"Hi-Fi News/RR" test disc 111 has a flexatone at track 22 that gives a very good indication of an amplifiers transient performance without upsetting the neigbours.
