Can I use polyester instead of stacked metal film caps for values 0.1uF, 0.01uF 50v and 100v caps in leach amp?

The caps Leach originally used were polyester film types (Mylar).
A lot depends on the construction of the cap at this point. Leach used stacked film types which have lower inductance than oval wrap types, they also had pure copper leads, and a good solid lead attachment. In theory polypropylene sounds better. I would rather have a good Mylar than a cheap oval polypropylene with copperweld (steel leads) mashed on the ends with tin paste. Rip a lead off, see how well it is attached, try a magnet on it too. |
