I am a novice who recently decided to move my my hi-fi system to another room. I now have a problem with my Sherwood RV 8070R tunrr amp.I can power up to standby mode but if I try to go further the amp shuts down back to standby.Therefore power supply seems to be ok as do connections,but it seems as if this is a safety cut out.Has anyone any ideas please?

Please check your speaker wires. It sounds like one (or more) is shorted together. It is possible that damage has already occured, hopefully not.
Remember to check the wires at both ends. If you extended the wires, carefully inspect the joint for shorts. If you have extended the wires, the splice for each wire should be offset from the other so they won't short if the insulation comes off.
