The books that come to mind are those by Robert (Bob) Cordell (new book on the way so you will see silly prices on Amazon) and Douglas Self.

For a good general background in electronic theory have a look at 'The Art Of Electronics' by Paul Horowitz and Winfield Hill.

If you are looking to learn low noise design this is the book to buy. Goes for about $20.00 used. There was a second edition in 1993 but noise theory didn't change so get the first edition. This book is filled with actual design examples, it's not just theory.

Low-Noise Electronic Design 1st Edition (1973)

Something worth thinking about if you don't have a lot of spare cash......
Good books like those already suggested are reference quality and they are not cheap. So yes, there are often used books on offer at online booksellers and even a couple of free PDF downloads of earlier editions at a couple of sites. It's also worth the short time it takes to download, to see the level of learning expected before you begin spending on the latest, enlarged editions.

The books above are very good.

If you need a refresher on electronics in general, the Navy electricity and electronics training serie (NEETS) is pretty good and available for free on the web.

The opamp handbook edited by Walt Jung is another good text to have around, it goes into many audio designs aspects. Available here: Op Amp Applications Handbook, 2005 | Education | Analog Devices

Btw, D. Self's books on small signal audio design is great too. Especially if you have an interest in recording and live sound applications.
