Default pre-amp needed for leach amp?

I don't really know the application of pre-amps. If I would run the leach amp from a computers sound car - line out or from the RCA out of say a car cd player I don't need a pre-amp right?

Also, I was curios to know how would I control the gain of my leach amp once it is finished?
