Has anyone tried an LT1083 based PSU?
They are good for 7A, and one could easily build a bipolar supply using two of them.

Yes, it should work but will still require some fairly large capacitors to smooth the ripple before being fed into the the regulator. You should try it and report back to us.

I just happen to have two LT1083 boards I had bought for a different project. Might as well use them for my ALPHA build
Ripple rejection is quoted at 75db at 120hz, and would be at 83db at 2A load, is that enough?

I kept investigating and found that the “extra” noise stopped when the fans were turned off. After a conversation with X, I installed a CLC filter I had from the AKSA Lender Preamp between the wallwart psu and the PWM fan controller. This combination worked very well to quiet the remaining “noise” I was hearing.

Nice result, Vunce. I noticed that JPS64 adds these CLC’s upstream of any pulsed digital system such as DC-DC or PWM modules. It seems to do the trick here doesn’t it? What’s odd is the Fo-Felix did not stop this from coming up from the mains.

JPS64 has the right idea, it worked for my setup.
The Fo-Felix is filtering the mains for the Alpha BB only, the psu for the PWM controller and fans is not connected to the Fo-Felix.
