Hi.
long story short: i seemed to have opened up a hornets nest looking for alternative phase splitter ideas for my push pull amp (sepearate thread on the tube forum). i don't want to use a tube splitter, for no rational reason other than an exercise in alternative thought, while keeping the cost economical (if possible).. so lets not go there. several possibilities, which i don't want to go into in this thread as a result, i'm considering of building the phase splitter into a preamp / buffered stage and building the push pull tube drive/ power stages on a seperate chassis to accept balenced inputs only. One option I was considering was using a popular line driver chip, the DRV-134 as a phase splitter. I was considering, at one point, to run a pot. volume control on the input of the DRV-134. But, ... the DRV-134 has an input impedance of about 600 ohm. i don't know if this is a good idea (correct me if i'm wrong) choices: the logical choice would be to use a unity gain buffer to accomodate the impedance requirements 1. run a tube buffer, .. possible but then, i would need 2 power supplies on the splitter/preamp unit, .. not sensible 2. (relevant to this post)the DRV-15 will run of a +/- 15V supply . why not use an opamp as a unity gain buffer, .. the OPA134 comes to mind. are there any better candidates for this purpose,, in the same price league. any better ideas / suggestions on this design? thanks,
