While searching for a compact yet well perfoming linear regulator I stumbled across one propossed by Fred Dieckmann:
But I was wondering: 1. What would the regulator for the negative rail look like apart from using a LM337 instead of LM317? 2. And how much capacitance can be used at the output of the regulator? 3. How can I calculate the output voltage? Input will be around 25v. I'm in the process of making drawing my first PCB. The space is tight so there's no room for the Jung superregulator. The regulator will power 3 or 5 OPA134. What should the width of the traces for this circuit be? I hope you can answer some of my noob questions. I'm not exactly an EE... |

Yes, that design Fred suggested looks interesting, although I
haven't had time to see if I can understand the subtle details of it. For question nr. 1) I would suppose you could make a complementary mirror image of the circuit, although some slight changes of component values might perhaps be more optimal. I suggest you post the question in the thread where Fred posted his design. I am sure he'd be happy to answer your question. I understand he has built and tested the positive version, but I don't know if he has considered the negative version yet. |

Ok, thanks Christer. I'll ask Fred.
