I brought my amplifier into Prof. Leach's Audio Lab today and hooked it up to the Tektronics THD analyzer, and I measured:
0.025% THD at full power 0.010% THD at medium power (average listening volume). My dc offset with no source is below 25mV on both channels. It sounds great. Pictures and more details are available in this thread: Leach amp pics I think that the Leach amp is the best basic DIY project. The pcbs are good quality and quite cheap. ($25 for a pair). It also does not require the heatsinking that the Class A designs require (zen, aleph). I am working on building an Aleph amplifier, but the Leach amp is a great place to start into the world of DIYAudio. I have built so far: 2 channel leach amp, 3 channel leach amp, 1 channel leach superamp, for a complete 5.1 setup (along with the dolby digital decoder I bought). Working on: Pass Labs Aleph 2 monoblocks. -- Brian gte619j@prism.gatech.edu |

BrianGT:
What are you using for Dolby Digital decoder? Whoops, I found your other post - do you like this decoder? I'm looking at the Opti-MOS, having bought the book, but the Leach looks good too. I'm putting together a parts list, but by the time I build 6 of the Opti-MOS's, I could buy a high end integrated receiver - not what I want to do, but if I get some amplification with the decoding ... what's the point of building some amps? (sigh). I have to admit I don't mind a Class "A" amp with it's heat and power requirements, however. == John ==
