Hi all,
ive just purchased my fave pre amp the levinson ml7. However im not sure of how healthy it is - the problems im experiencing is firsly that im getting some crackling noise from the volume knob. secondly when the cd player is playing through aux 1, i can still hear the cd, although muted, when in another source ie phono... so i have to stop cd play and switch off tuner in order to have silence in phono...
now the seller says this was not his primary pre amp, has no idea of issues and has been advised by a well known audio specialist who said that this is to be expected and the leaking sound is normal.!!!
I cant imagine why Mark Levinson would incorporate this into his design, it doesnt seem right to me and im inclined toward getting a refund.
please provide your advice if you have any ideas as I will put forward any supporting arguments for a refund.
ps. seller initially described unit as functioning perfectly.
many thanks in advance.

Such bleeding is to be expected when unused inputs are not shorted.
The ML7 preamp is not defective, but lacks that feature.

What does the crosstalk sound like? Thin and heavy on highs? That would be ordinary capacitive coupling and may be expected. If it sounds rather normal, the input selector may have been flooded with contact cleaner at some point that left some slightly conductive residue behind. In that event the selector switch should be opened, properly cleaned, just the contacts sealed and everything put back together.
thanks for the reply. ive previously owned the ml10a and the ml1 and didnt did not experiance the bleeding inputs or leaking sound. I still cant believe that this was allowed to occur in the original design. can anyone else verify this please..
thanks
It's clearly the case in the schematic link that I posted.
