I'm interested to know how trim pot values are established. Not in terms of requirement in a circuit but in building the actual pot to a certain value in manufacturing. I've taken a Bourns multi-turn apart and there is a pad and a wiper. That's it. So what determines it's operating value? TIA
The resistivity of the element, which can be varied according to the resistance value desired.

Multi-turn pots are the same as standard pots, with the addition of a worm gear drive to enable easier fine adjustment. And whaddaya know - Wikipedia has a full explanation of how pots work: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Potentiometer#Potentiometer_construction
