This Problem is common on all older Pioneers. The PNP Diff amp transistors in the poweramp section, should be changed as they go intermittant quite often. Another common problem is in the protection circuit itself. Several of the detector transistors start to leak and force the unit into protect. Of course you should measure the amp outputs for DC to verify wich problem you have.

Hmm ok I think I have found the problem.

On the Protection circuit board, there is a transistor (or a diode? I don't know the difference) which is connected to the ground side of the relay operation circuit. If I just two of the legs of the transistor, I can make the relay click closed, creating the circuit to let the speaker singnals through to the speaker connections.

It looks like the board has been repaired before, as the bad transistor seem to be different that the other ones on the board. There are newer solder points on the bottom as well.

I am not positive that this is the problem, but as long as I have the jumper wire in place, everything works perfectly.

Here are the numbers on the thing...where can I find a replacement?

C1383 R .74

Thanks for the help
