a few inter-related questions:

I have a parasound hca-1000 hooked up to magnepan MG-12s, with a low pass xover to my M&K sub at 100hz.

it's a sweet sounding set up at low to moderate volumes.

i increase volume to slightly more than moderate levels, however, and i see the current overload lights on the parasound amp blink during dynamic passages. amp still sounds sweet. no audible distortion. doesn't sound like it's clipping. so what's going on?

oddly enough, if i increase the volume even more the blinking lights disappear, but the amp sounds much more brittle to my ears.

is this the amp switching from class A to AB? what exactly is going on? and do i need a more powerful amp to hear the sweet sound at higher volumes?
