Default Altec Lansing 621

Hi,

A friend of mine brought this system he bought from a second hand dealer and asked me to check. There are 2 small full range speakers and a subwoofer. I connected the 2 speakers to the subwoofer.I plugged in a signal from my CD player and powered the subwoofer. There was nothing happening. After a brief check, I realised that there is a connector behind marked as 'controller', which is missing. After checking on the website, I realise that there is a 'power' button, volume up and a volume down buttons on the controller. I guessed that there is nothing happening, because the controller is not plugged in. Can someone advice that my guess is correct. Can this unit function without the controller, if not is there any solution? Please help.

Thanks

Carlos
