Default NAD L40 CD Problem

I have an nad L40 that has developed a problem with the cd transport.

When a cd is loaded into the tray and closed it thinks for about 15 seconds and then ejects the cd.

If no cd is present and the tray is closed the display flashes "Blocked" and then says "Press standby or CD tray".

It was working perfectly this just happened out of the blue.

Typically something like this is either
a) a bad / dirty / worn tray switch (usually there are two for open + close detection)
or
b) a worn-out belt that prevents the mechanism from fully loading.

What sort of CD drive does this unit use?

I think the transport mechanism is the same as the NAD C541.

Pulled the cover off and removed the belt and cleaned it and also the pulleys. Now problem is only intermittent so looks like it is the belt. The problem is that the laser does not lift when the transport closes. If I give the unit a tap when it closes it helps.

Have ordered a new belt.

Thanks.

Same Sanyo transport as most late 90s/early 2000s NAD CD players?
If so, you'll find lots of threads and hints on the forum in this section:

Thanks. Looks likely it is a belt issue.
