What conditions are you talking about?
Load impedance, output voltage RMS, output power RMS.
What is the front-end that you're using with this OPS?
0.17% with zero bias is possible with enough feedback, however it will sound bad because of very nasty nature of crossover distortion. It will sound good at 100...150mA per output pair. If, setting 100mA per pair, you still see 0.17% THD - something is wrong with your front-end. It must be much lower with higher bias.
Kypton V2 front end
4ohm load
+/-73V power supply
distortion at
100Hz is 0.17% but at any lower bias value from 0 to 100ma per hexfet
1Khz its 0.0008% for 80ma per Hexfet.

100Hz and 1KHz distortion level must be almost the same in similar conditions. Why do you have such a huge difference? Something is not right.
Im using these following ltspice directives>
.options plotwinsize=0
.options numdgt=7
.param Freq=100
.param numcyc=32
.param dlycyc=1
.param FFT=48192
.param simtime=(dlycyc+numcyc)/Freq
.param dlytime=dlycyc/Freq
.param numsampl=simtime/Freq/((simtime/numcyc)*FFT)
.four {Freq} V(Vin) V(Vout)
;ac dec 100 .1 10e6
.tran 0 100m {dlytime} {numsampl}
is there anything to be altered to check the low freq THD?

yes agreed probably simulation parameters or im using AC coupling with 2.2uf cap at the input so would that be the cause of that distortion at lower freq?100Hz and 1KHz distortion level must be almost the same in similar conditions. Why do you have such a huge difference? Something is not right.
With regards to the temperature - I normally stut down the amp when the main heatsink reaches 80-90 degrees Celsius.

I would love to do the fan way and thermal cutoff as it will be safe but i dont know the circuit that if fan fails i want the amp soft start to be off so is there anyway to detect fan malfunction cutoff circuit?

I have gust answered this >HERE<
can anyone tell me the advantages of using the Jfet CCS?how about using Jfet constant current source at the input? a simple configuration is good enough?

CCS on your picture does not look right. The way it's shown, its constant current will be equal to Idss, that can be somewhere between 1.5mA and 15mA (normally 5mA). In order to have the current more predictable, you need to use resistor between the drain and the source (the gate is negatively biased).
can anyone tell me the advantages of using the Jfet CCS?
Key advantage - jFET-based CCS has got only two leads, no external references required. In some cases - higher output impedance, but this is not a big deal in this particular case. You will not gain any noticeable improvements here.
Hi
Can anybody point me to the schematic and pcb files(for etching) of the "Arc Welder Edition".
I've done a search and found a V3 bom and a picture of the specified version.I've got a nice big toroid that's just begging to be used.Got it from a friend who runs an e-waste collection company with some other bits and pieces which included a 2 channel Agilent oscilloscope(nice xmas present for me).
The boards will be made at the local technical college by a friend who works in the lab.
Any pointers would be welcome as well.

I've got the Slewmaster 2P/5P OPS schematic.I presume it is current and works for the "Arc Welder Edition V2.0"?.
The reason I'm asking is that I've read that there is some component differences between the bjt and mosfet versions,or am I completely off track here?
Just want to confirm before I start ordering parts. This thread is huge and even though OS has updated the info in the first post, not all info is present.I even went to OS's site but that info hasn't been updated for quite a while.
Thanks again

jwilhem: Thanks for the schematic. It seems to be the one that corresponds to the V3 bom I have. The two older schematics which I have are slightly different. Thanks again.
evanc:- The extra options is good to have.I'll add it to the V3 bom I have.Thanks.
Any pointers with regard to IPS,psu type, etc? I want to use the amp for a sub system.I recall someone building a sub system but for the life of me can't seem to find it again in this huge thread.
