Sony STR-K700 receiver (no sound problem)
Hello, i'm new to the forum, just registered cause I need some help.
I'm from Brazil and a few years ago I purchased a Sony receiver when I traveled to USA. Recently the receiver stopped working and there isn't any sound from any channel. I searched Google for the service manual to try to fix it myself (this manual is linked bellow). I couldn't fix it using the factory reset code, so I tried Sony repair here in Brazil, to my surprise as this receiver was bought in USA they couldn't even try to fix it.
So I tried again to fix it myself, I opened it up, cleaned everything, checked for damaged components, etc, and apparently nothing was wrong with it. Eventually I isolated the problem between two ICs, the IC1101 in the digital board and the IC400 in the main board.
This is what I did:
Selected the tuner as the input.
Connected a speaker directly in the tuner output to see if I would get a signal, I did.
Connected the speaker directly in the pin 10 on the IC400(L input), I did get a signal.
Connected the speaker to the pin 49 of IC400 (L output), no signal.
So the problem apparently is in the IC400, but what if the IC1101 isn't sending the clock data to the IC400? So IC1101 could be the problem, right?
Well, to check if all outputs were ok I did the following:
Connected all speakers to their respective outputs.
Bypassed the tuner L signal (pin 10 of IC400) to each output in the IC400
Pin 49 (L output)
Pin 48 (R output)
Pin 41 (SR output)
Pin 40 (SL output)
Pin 33 (C output)
Pin 32 (SW output)
All of them worked, so there is no shorted outputs and the preamp and poweramp section are both working. (So the protection circuit is not activated, right?)
I don't know which IC is the problem, is there any way to find out?
Everything in the receiver works, even the digital input, just no sound at all from the speakers like if they aren't even connected.
So, anyone have any idea of what might be happening?
Thanks to everyone who can help.
