Hi,
I have friends Yamaha M-4 on my desk for repair with burned driver and output transistors on one channel. Of course, all of them are now obsolete. I managed to acquire some replacements for the output transistors but have nothing for the driver pair 2SA968/2SA2238. I have RS and Farnell distributors in a place where I live, but I didn't manage to find anything on their stock that could be useful in my case. Found some that are sold on ebay though, but I I think there is a great chance of them being chinese fakes, so I would like to avoid those and find some source that is more reliable. Does anyone have an idea on this ? |

Avoid exotic fakes and go for serious european replacements. Maybe not so low-noise or high FT, but reliable and good soundind, especially in a global feedback environment. Pinout is different and that is difficult to replace. But in a GFB circuit, you can use 2sc1315, general purpose and a big affordable replacement with a REAL good sound. I know many specialists using FAKES, they are moanin' in a orgasm for those bjt, just poor written characters on a plastic case...
Let me know. Gianni |

Agreed, use the newer 2SA1837/2SC4793 pair. You are likely to get fakes of the A968/C2238 pairs

CDIL makes them in India (dunno their quality). Magnatec in europe used to make them and I have a few pairs which seems ok.
Newer toshiba replacements should be ok in your application.
