Hello,
I'm new to the forum, I was about to post my question when the search window suggested a very helpful existing thread named: "ALtec 9440A... suggestions?" It's filled with helpful suggestions for an amp that sounded like it had promise, but my amp seems completely dead, out of the gate. It has the modification of two mounted fans on the back. these work when plugged in individually but the outlets built in to the unit are dead. the 10 Amp 250 fuse on the back of the unit looks to be good. It's harder to tell with the pigtailed fuses mounted on top of the transformer. I guess my question is where do I even start? I don't want to waste anyones time here. Thank you very much for your attention and consideration. Mike. |

No problem at all. Is there something specific that you'd like to see pictures of?

Zen,
That would be very helpful. all I've managed to find on the internet were block diagrams. With a schematic I could approach a local technician I know. I'm not opposed to putting in the cleaning work and the recapping but yeah I have a feeling that this one's a little over my head. Mike |

"these work when plugged in individually but the outlets built in to the unit are dead."
The 1.5A fuse on top of the transformer is blown. "It's filled with helpful suggestions for an amp that sounded like it had promise, but my amp seems completely dead, out of the gate." Nothing to do with the fan fuse. This is a tough amp for most technicians, even with the complete service data. Does the unit power up and the relay click, if now there is a problem. If it does power up and the relay clicks, then you must use the 1/4" inputs, the XLRs will not work without the (optional) transformers being installed in the internal octal sockets. Remove all solder from every connection (transistor end edge connector pin) involving a gold component lead and re-solder with 4% silver solder.

Zen,
thanks so much for the manuals and docs. djk, I think what I'll try to do is your two suggestions here and see how far I get. I AM a newbie for sure. I want to thank you guys for taking the time. I really appreciate it. Mike |
