I have forgotten the topic, but, I have just looked into the switch : No, I do Not connect the outputs, I connect the inputs. Position 1 is stereo, position 2 connects the two input to output 1. Position 3 connects the two inputs to output 2. ( I forgot to put a dot on channel 2. )
As far as the resistors are concerned, I do not like to rely on the input, although you may be right. Yet, the loss of signal with the 20K is negligible and the input is supposed to be of much higher than 20K impedance.
