Looking for advice (or links) on the mechanical design and chassis for a testbed SS stereo amp.
I want a good size chassis with heat sinks suitable for a 200 WPC amp. I'll build the amp modular using sub chassises that can be swapped out. The idea is to try out different ideas and evolve the design over time. I'm new to SS amps. I'm used to building with tubes and have my own preferred contraction technique for use with tube amps. I'll have to figure out how I like building SS amps. But I need some suggestions about where to find the chassis parts |

Yes, they are pretty reasonable for the money in my view - though not to the highest finish standards. I thought the diyAudio store was going to carry them in the USA - I just took a quick look and could not see anything - maybe a moderator can update us on the status.

Depending on your budget, I founds tons of heatsinks attached to the motor drives that went into the dumpster at the food plant I last worked at. Sanitation tended to squirt them with high pressure hoses and blow them up. So if you have a friend that works maintenance at a food plant, buy him a six pack or something and get into the trash stream. Motor drives have fans, 24 v relays, and power conditioning devices, also.
Most of the motor drives had plastic cases, a dozen or so (Heat and Control) had stainless steel cases with power disconnects and heat sinks on the back, which look really cool but don't keep the RF out. I've been picking up recipe files and personal files out of magnetic steel for enclosures, the ones with a hinged top. I have my own drills and conduit punches, and cut square or oversize holes with a diamond dust drill bit or a carbide hacksaw blade (round) to connect the dots of small drilled holes. You need a dirty shop with a vise, as steel dust is bad for the electronics bench.
