Some appear to be used for output muting, too.

Low-freq distortion may not be all that great with ceramic coupling caps, that's true, but for the most part I'd assume distortion to be limited by the LMV358 (specified at about 0,01% at 1 Vpp across most of the audio band - btw, this is one of those parts that I'd be tempted to try with class A biasing, as o/p stage quiescent current must be minimal).
