hi all,
im a newb and need a little help. im not sure how to separate out my sub channel on a basic 2.1 stereo setup from a dac.

my rig is like this
pc sound card > toslink > dac/headphone amp/pre amp > amp > 2.1

my question is how do i separate out a sub channel from my dac, which only has two pre outs? do i need to change my set up or can this be done with my existing set up? i mayyyyy, just thinking about it now, be able to run a sub output from the pc card to the amp and from the amp to the sub but im not sure if im a fan of that or not yet. anyway...
let me know your thoughts, please ask any additional questions.
cheers to all helpful answers.

2.1 requires a dedicated multichannel soundcard, which also does the upmixing for normal stereo sound.

In your case, you would need an active crossover after your dac/headphone amp that forks a mono bass from the stereo signal to your sub. You can certainly diy something like that, check Rod Elliotts pages.
