BURSON SINGLE AUDIO OPAMPS ! ONE OF THE GREATEST !

Well, I don't have the Burson schematic, but looking at the audio-gd "Earth" one, I can see room for improvement. For example, they could use the LSK389 instead of the discrete K170's for the input differential pair. There's also no current mirror to be found.

The Sonic Imagery Labs op amp uses monolithic NPN and PNP matched pairs for the input differential amplifier. That's just one example. However, of course, this op amp requires it's own special socket. It's not a DIP replacement like the others.

Would be nice to know what kind of resistors is used inside the Sonics opamps. Specifications is not enough to make me buy !

Oh, you can call them up. They should be open right now. I'd be surprised if they use anything less than 1% metal films. I was looking for a photo of the guts somewhere but I can't find it. I'm familiar with the monolithic transistors they are probably using, from Analog Devices:
MAT01 | Matched Monolithic Dual Transistor | Matched Transistors | Special Linear Functions | Analog Devices
I'm just guessing though.

Ah, I think this is it:

Well, this is Five Fish, which is not the same thing, but they are probably so close that it doesn't matter.

It would be fun to try to design one of these pro audio type discrete op amps that is better than what anyone else offers. The PCB is only about 1" square. We can do better than these guys.

:) Go ahead ! ;)
Have you seen THAT 340 and other product from That ?

I am trying to make a I/V stage with THAT 340 at the moment .

Anyway I do not like metalfilm resistors !

Anyone have done a direct comparison between them? specs help, yes..but is not enough to take a final decision.

FYI..burson is doing an opamp giveaway on their FB page.

It would be difficult because they are use different sockets.

I think products like the Burson are just for those who want a discrete op amp in their existing commercial gear that uses DIP chip op amps. I would not use one for a new design.

Oh, those THAT 340's look really nice... thanks for the suggestion. Oh! and they are available in DIP package! Me likeee!!

What is your favorite resistor then? I doubt I could hear the difference myself.

Unfortunately, I lack the skills to make such a PCB myself, and I have very little design experience also.

What is the price on the THAT 340?

Ask them directly. They will give you a dealer in Europe.
They would have to be MANUFACTURED in EU in order to avoid customs import taxes. A dealer would have to pay those taxes too and add them to the final price...
