Onkyo M-504 Meter Lamp

Do you guys ever replace the meter lamp for this kind of amp ( M-504) ? I mean i took it out a part already and i saw it there were 2 circuit board that holding the two lamps on each board and just wondering what do i have to replace them with LED ( blue prefered) ? How about some pics and showing step by step how to get to that ? I guess i want to do like this guy did to his amp, dont have to get the red color but just want the blue.

From a glance at the M-504 schematic, the lamps are powered by 12V DC via a 4.7 ohm resistor R725 which is limiting lamp current. You may need to remove this resistor.

Your LEDs will need a current limiting resistor, which is based on the formula (Vsup-Vf)/If. Vsup is the supply voltage, so 12V here. Vf is the LED's forward voltage drop, typically this is between 3.3v-4v for a Blue LED. If is the forward current required, typically 20mA (0.02A) for the full brightness - you may want to use less.

Thanks for the help Jaycee but i was told that those 2 lamps using 14VDC 150 mA on each side of the meter. I took the board out but didnt see any resistors that you mentioned. Lets say if i can find the resistor that is based on your formula , how do i connect them ? Remember each board has two lamps and i think they were in series.

oh also, the power supplied to the lamps is 12.5VDC. the factory lamps are rated to handle up to 14VDC.

hello.. Im in the same boat as you are with blown lamps and wanting LED's...so here is what Im gonna do and use...let me know if anyone sees anything wrong with this..
these are the LED's I wanna use Tiny Prewired Super Bright Surface Mount LEDs - 12V DIY Plug and Play SMT LED and I want to swap in some blue ones..they can handle the volts and the mA, and have the resistors built in!
so If anyone sees anything wrong with this ( other than not gonna be OE and not green, may hurt the value some)..please chime in
