Hybrid Rush Cascode input anyone ?
The Rush cascode has some adherents but it carries the disadvantage of dc-offset compared with an LTP input.
Replacing one device with a depletion mode FET, or JFET, or Triode, you can remove the dc-offset quite conveniently. It seems to me that triodes are just as easy to find as JFETs these days. The harmonic profile is also rather nice. The 6N23P is a tube you can use at low voltage & low current, it has good transconductance and compared with most tubes it has a very modest heater requirements (6.3V at 300mA = $5 transformer) plus you can use the popular ECC88 or 6DJ8 instead.

Nice circuit, Gareth. Good profile, elegant avoidance of offset problems.
OTOH, a bit of offset at the input polarises the cap, makes it sound better.... Hugh |
