Thanks for the parts info, Sonic. Some time ago I replaced the bipolar caps. with a couple I had to hand. The two 4700uf checked OK before the 1.6AT Fuse blew, but I might replace them anyway. I have a couple of 12000uf caps which I got from Mouser a while ago. Don't remember the make or working voltage, but,if they are suitable and will physically fit, I may use them. As far as I know, there shouldn't be any problem caused by using higher capacity smoothers. The FETs I can get from Cricklewood Electronics CCTV and Electronic Componentsor one of the other UK based firms. As to the relay, I hadn't thought about checking/replacing it, but may have to. Araldite or similar may be the way to go when re-sealing components, so getting the 309W working again may be a real possibility.
Thanks again to everyone for their helpful suggestions.

Further to the above, the 12000uf Capacitors are (only)rated at 63v., so may not be adequate for the Mordaunt Short with its 60v DC rails. Pity!

Did you manage to fix it in the end?

I've got an MS309w that's cutting out randomly. If I can fix it by replacing a couple of cheap components then I might keep it for a while, otherwise I'm ready to throw it out and buy something new.
