Improving Technics SU-8080

Hello there -

I've got hold of an old Technics SU-8080. It's a very nice amp, but pretty old now, and I wonder if there's anything I can do to improve it, such as replacing the capacitors. Does anyone have any experience with this? I have the users' and service manuals with schematics, if they're helpful.

Would be very grateful for any advice.

On an amp of such age, replace all electrolytic capacitors. That in itself will most likely bring a vast improvement in sound, especially in bass if the power supply capacitors have aged significantly.

Replacing all the electrolytics seems like a daunting task, but it should be worth the effort.

Just use good quality ones - Nichicon, Rubycon, Nippon Chemicon, Panasonic. 105c types preferably. Personally I am a fan of Panasonic, but any of the brands I mentioned are good.
