Default Luxman L85V - Replace 2SA679-NTE280/81

Hi,

Just wondering what your thoughts are on NTE brand transistors?

I have a Luxman L-85V I picked up for an OK price but one channel has the 2SC1079/2SA679 both SC.

Someone has replaced the other channel with 2SC1586/2SD424 which are working fine.

I want to replace both channels, on ebay there are items such as:

5px 2SA679 / A679 + 5 x 2SC1079 / C1079 TRANSISTOR TO-3 | eBay

but something tells me these are fakes as they are quite cheap. I searched a substitution guide and the NTE280/NTE281 come up as a match so I wondered if anyone had used them/can suggest a better substitution?

I will also be replacing the drivers and all electros on the amp.

Those "Toshiba" transistors you linked to are definitely fake and are junk. The NTE's quite frankly are not far ahead of them. I'd steer clear of BOTH as there are far superior replacements. You should have no problem dropping in something like MJ21193/MJ21194 from on-semi.

The good old MJ21193G/4G look a great substitution! I will look at a few schematics to see what people are using for the drivers so I can replace the 2SD382/2SB537s as well.

I am thinking MJE15030/31 for the drivers.
